Sunday's Service

On Sunday, Melissa, Mum & Me went to the wee parish church that I have been serving as locum minister since Oct 23rd. We ventured to Maryhill Road to catch the 40 bus in order to arrive at church with time to spare...the bus was a few minutes late, but that's the way things go with public transportation. The bus takes about 25-30 minutes to arrive in Drumchapel--so we had a nice ride through the villages of Maryhill, Bearsden, the edge of Westerton, and into Drumchapel.

I wasn't presiding this particular Sunday, because the Interim Moderator of the church suggested he preside that day--to keep in touch with the folk. No problem for me--having the chance to worship in the place with the people I serve was a privilege. ;o) Afterwards, while the folk gathered for their 'annual stated meeting', I left mum & Melissa in the capable care of some of the guys who have started attending St. Marks. They are great! Once the meeting was finished, everyone gathered for tea & coffee--which is our tradition at St. Marks.

We decided to have lunch in Drumchapel, because I was leading the 3pm service at the assisted living shelter and we didn't want to have to hurry backwards & forwards via public transport. Plus, the ladies and a few gentlemen who live at the shelter were looking forward to meeting Melissa & Mum. So...we invited my friend & colleague Phil to join us for "Fish & Chips"! (chips here are french fries to most of you...) Over lunch we chatted about various things, and Phil offered to give us a lift to the Shelter & even offered to play the music for the afternoon service. We all agreed this would be delightful, so not only did the folk get to meet Melissa & my mum, but we had music to sing to too! :o)

The ladies were super kind & showed us quality Scottish hosptitality after the service with a huge spread of biscuits (cookies), cakes, and shortbread, etc. with the tea & coffee. Then to even exceed our imaginations, they had organized a wee collection among them to purchase wee gifts for each of us! We were overwhelmed!

All in all, the day was a beautiful day of God's hospitality as realized through our own humanity and the gatherings which happen around tables!

Thanks be to God!
Jamie
